APhA's Pharmacy-Based Immunization Training


 
APhA’s Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery certificate training program is based on national educational standards for immunization training from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  This practice-based curriculum represents a fusion of science and clinical pharmacy. The program, which emphasizes a health care team approach, seeks to foster the implementation of interventions that will promote disease prevention and public health.  The purpose of this certificate training program is to prepare pharmacists with comprehensive knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to provide immunization services to patients across the life span.
 
PROGRAM GOALS - The goals of this program are to:
Educate pharmacists about:
  1. The impact of vaccines on public health.
  2. Pharmacists’ roles in immunization.
  3. Immunologic principles of vaccine development and immunizations.
  4. Vaccine-preventable diseases and the vaccines used to prevent them.
  5. Strategies for improving immunization rates.
  6. Requirements for pharmacists who provide immunization services.
 
Prepare pharmacists to:
  1. Read an immunization schedule and identify appropriate vaccines for individuals across the life span and with special needs.
  2. Educate patients about the benefits of vaccines and dispel myths about vaccines.
  3. Safely administer vaccines to patients via subcutaneous, intramuscular, intranasal, and intradermal routes.
  4. Operate an immunization service in compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
  5. Partner with immunization stakeholders to promote immunizations and the immunization neighborhood.
 
Direct pharmacists to resources necessary to:
  1. Promote public health through immunizations.
  2. Access regularly updated information about vaccines and their use.
  3. Effectively communicate with patients and other stakeholders about resources.
  4. Operate an immunization service in compliance with legal and regulatory standards.

WAITLIST INFORMATION
Seating for this event is limited. Once all seats have been filled, a waitlist will be automatically generated through this website. If a seat becomes available, waitlisted individuals will be sent an automated email notification. Available seats will be filled on a first-come, first served basis.
 

 
REFUNDS & CANCELLATIONS
All cancellations must be received in writing via email.  Refunds will be delivered in the same manner as payment was received. If you are expecting a check, please allow up to 6 weeks for processing and delivery via the US postal service. Refund eligibility, provided the enrollment code has NOT been redeemed, is determined as listed below. If the enrollment code has been redeemed, the maximum refund that can be issued is $200.
  • Prior to April 1st - 95% of max refund
  • April 1 - April 15 - 75% of max refund
  • April 16 - April 27 - 50% of max refund
  • April 28 or later - no refund

This program was developed by APhA. The American Pharmacists Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. The home-study portion of the Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery certificate training program is approved for 12 contact hours (1.2 CEUs) of continuing pharmacy education credit (UAN 0202-9999-17-160-H06-P). The live training seminar is approved for 8 contact hours (0.8 CEU) of continuing pharmacy education credit (UAN 0202-9999-17-161-L06-P).

Erica Crannage, Pharm.D., BCPS, BCACP
Associate Professor, Pharmacy Practice, St. Louis College of Pharmacy


Brief Bio : Dr. Crannage obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Drake University in 2008. She completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency with an Ambulatory Care Focus in 2009 and a PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency in 2010 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She is currently an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Dr. Crannage is also a Clinical Pharmacist at the Saint Louis University Department of Family and Community Medicine SLUCare Patient-Centered Medical Home where she has developed and implemented multiple Medication Therapy Services protocols. Her areas of interest and clinical services include: anticoagulation; prevention and treatment of diabetes; and interprofessional education.

Golden Peters, Pharm.D., BCPS
Associate Professor, Pharmacy Practice, St. Louis College of Pharmacy


Brief Bio : Dr. Peters received his B.A. degree from Fontbonne University in Clayton, Missouri and his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville in 2009. He completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency in 2010 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in affiliation with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Pharmacy. He is currently an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. He is also a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Primary Care at the VA St. Louis Health Care System – John Cochran Division. His areas of interest and clinical services include: diabetes, resistant hypertension, anticoagulation, headache disorders and smoking cessation.

Michelle Jeon, Pharm.D.
Assistant Professor, Pharmacy Practice , St. Louis College of Pharmacy


Brief Bio : Dr. Jeon received her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees at Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in 2015. She completed her Community Practice Residency experience at Hartzell’s Pharmacy/Wilkes University in Pennsylvania. Currently, Dr. Jeon’s practice site is at Walgreens Pharmacy, where she coordinates implementation of clinical services and provides medication therapy management. Additionally, Dr. Jeon serves as residency site coordinator for the Walgreens/STCLOP PGY1 Community-Based Residency Program.

Nicole Gattas, Pharm.D., BCPS, FAPhA
Assistant Director of Community & Ambulatory Care, St. Louis College of Pharmacy


Brief Bio : Dr. Nicole Gattas is an associate professor of pharmacy practice and associate director of experiential education. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D.) from the University of Iowa. Dr. Gattas completed a Community Pharmacy Residency at Dominick’s Pharmacy and the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is also a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) and has been recognized as a Fellow by the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Practice and Management (FAPhA).
